Braces at Ipswich Orthodontics
Braces are an effective treatment method for straightening teeth but these days there are different types to choose from. At Ipswich Orthodontics, our team can recommend the best braces for you.

Self-ligating braces
Self-ligating means that the brackets do not need the little o-shaped rubber bands (modules) or metal tie wires to hold the arch wire onto the bracket. Several companies have come up with various techniques for holding the arch wire in place without ligatures. With good cooperation from patients, treatment time may be reduced with fewer appointments. This is mainly due to the light continuous force that can be applied and as well as the reduced friction in the system.

Conventional braces
Metal brackets are very strong and can withstand most types of treatment. Most traditional metal braces require elastic o-shaped rubber bands (modules), called ligatures to hold the arch wire onto the bracket. Sometimes orthodontists use metal tie wires (little wires which are twisted around the bracket) in place of elastic ligatures.

Clear braces
These braces are made of ceramic. They are almost invisible and can look really good with coloured modules (if you like colours). They are usually placed on the top teeth, with stainless steel brackets on the lower teeth. Ceramic brackets can be abrasive and, if used on the lower teeth, could produce wear of your top teeth when you close your mouth, damaging the top teeth.
